- Design Revisions & Coordination
Agency: Marx Layne & Company
Client: Neighborhood Service Organization (NSO)
Neighborhood Service Organization’s annual report brings together its work, community impact, supporters, and financial information in one publication. The design needed to make that range of content accessible while keeping the organization’s mission at the center.
Through my work at Marx Layne & Company, I developed the report’s editorial layout, integrating program content, photography, donor recognition, and financial information into a cohesive presentation.
Challenge
An annual report serves several audiences at once. Donors, partners, and community members need to understand the organization’s work, while readers reviewing financials or recognition lists need a clear way to find specific information.
The design needed to:
- Organize varied content into a publication that is easy to navigate
- Balance stories and photography with detailed information
- Give program information and outcomes a clear hierarchy
- Present donor recognition consistently
- Make financial information readable
- Accommodate content updates throughout the review process
Editorial Approach
Creating a consistent reading experience
I used typography, spacing, and page structure to connect the report’s sections. Clear headings helped readers scan the publication, while body text and supporting details provided room for a closer read.
Balancing imagery and information
Photography and editorial layouts brought a human focus to the report. The page compositions balanced visual storytelling with the information readers needed to understand NSO’s work.

Program & Impact Content
I integrated supplied program descriptions, stories, and outcome information into the report’s layout, giving each type of content an appropriate place within the visual hierarchy.
The design provided room for both narrative and supporting facts, helping connect individual sections with the report’s broader account of the organization’s work.
Donors & Financials
Donor Recognition
I organized donor recognition content into a consistent layout, using clear groupings and readable typography to present supporters alongside the report’s other sections.
Financial Information
I incorporated the supplied financial information into the editorial system, prioritizing clear labels, alignment, and hierarchy so readers could navigate the figures.
These information-focused pages remained visually connected with the rest of the report while serving a more detailed reading task.

Collaboration & Revisions
The report required coordination as content, photography, donor information, and financial details were reviewed and updated.
I revised the layouts to accommodate incoming material and feedback, maintaining consistency as the publication developed.
This work connected editorial design with the practical demands of assembling a report from multiple sources.
Design Deliverables

Design Outcome

The project demonstrates my ability to organize complex information, work through evolving content, and balance nonprofit storytelling with the practical requirements of an annual report.
