Client: Detroit Hispanic Development Corporation (DHDC)
Agency: Marx Layne & Company
Timeline: August–November 2026

Detroit Hispanic Development Corporation is a Southwest Detroit nonprofit dedicated to empowering individuals and families through education, economic opportunity, community organizing, and neighborhood development.

Working through Marx Layne & Company, I helped develop and execute a social media strategy designed to strengthen DHDC’s digital presence, increase visibility for its programs, and highlight the people and partnerships driving its community impact.

The project combined strategic content planning, original graphic design, copywriting, and community-centered storytelling across Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn.

DHDC serves a diverse community through programs spanning youth development, housing assistance, entrepreneurship, community advocacy, and violence prevention. With so many initiatives, the organization needed a cohesive approach to communicating its impact while maintaining an authentic connection to Southwest Detroit.

The social presence needed to:

  • Increase awareness of programs, services, and resources
  • Strengthen organizational credibility and community trust
  • Highlight authentic stories, achievements, and partnerships
  • Make information accessible through clear, engaging, bilingual content
  • Balance planned branded communications with timely community updates

Community. Opportunity. Impact.

I developed a content strategy centered on positive, people-focused storytelling. Alongside promotional graphics and organizational announcements, the approach emphasized community experiences, accessible resources, and the individuals behind DHDC’s programs.

I organized monthly social media calendars around recurring themes:

  • Program spotlights and educational resources
  • Community success stories and partnerships
  • Staff recognition and accomplishments
  • Media coverage and organizational updates

The calendars served as flexible frameworks, allowing DHDC’s communications team to incorporate timely event photography, videos, and community updates alongside planned content. This supported consistency while preserving the authenticity of the organization’s day-to-day work.

I designed original social media graphics using DHDC’s established identity, combining its green, teal, yellow, and orange palette with bold typography, varied layouts, and authentic community photography.

Clear hierarchy, mobile readability, and recognizable branding guided the designs. The layouts introduced variation while keeping the feed connected.

  • Community Violence Prevention awareness graphics
  • Monthly welcome and organizational awareness posts
  • Media coverage highlights
  • English and Spanish housing assistance graphics
  • Thanksgiving and community appreciation graphics
  • Program-focused educational and resource communications

Community-focused creative extends the visual system across different messages.

Accessibility was an important consideration throughout the project. I developed complementary English and Spanish graphics promoting DHDC’s one-on-one housing assistance services.

The materials communicated support with water bills, property taxes, tax affidavits, municipal services, and language assistance. Consistent layouts, iconography, and hierarchy helped connect the two language versions.

The coordinated designs were intended to make essential resources easier to understand and access.

Beyond visual design, I developed captions, content themes, and editorial calendars connecting DHDC’s programs with broader community outcomes. Topics included entrepreneurship, youth development, housing resources, Community Violence Prevention, and staff accomplishments.

Amplifying Community Impact

I also designed graphics highlighting earned media coverage, helping extend the visibility of DHDC’s work across its digital channels.

Working with DHDC’s communications team, I incorporated available photography and program information while leaving room for timely, authentic storytelling.
