Concert of Colors 2026

Bringing Detroit’s Global Music Festival to Life Through Digital Design

My Role

  • Digital Strategy
  • Web Design & Development
  • UX/UI Design
  • Interactive Event Scheduling
  • Digital Experience Design
  • Social Media Graphics & Event Promotion

Client: Concert of Colors
Agency: Marx Layne & Company
Year: 2026

Concert of Colors is Detroit’s annual free global music festival, bringing together artists, musicians, and communities to celebrate cultural diversity through music and the arts.

For the festival’s 35th anniversary in 2026, I contributed to its digital presence through website development, interactive event experiences, and promotional design.

Working through Marx Layne & Company, I helped translate a complex, multi-venue festival into accessible digital experiences that made it easier for audiences to discover artists, explore performances, and plan their festival experience.

The project combined creative storytelling, functional web design, and digital event promotion to support one of Detroit’s signature cultural celebrations.

With performances, workshops, cultural programming, and special events taking place across 13 venues, Concert of Colors needed digital tools that could organize extensive information without overwhelming visitors.

Audiences needed an intuitive way to explore the lineup, identify event locations, navigate schedules, and discover participating artists across desktop and mobile devices.

The challenge was to balance the festival’s vibrant visual identity with clear information architecture, usability, and accessibility.

My work connected the festival’s visual storytelling with its functional digital experience. Using the established branding, I developed digital layouts and promotional materials that maintained consistency while supporting different audience needs.

Simplifying Event Discovery

Organize performances, venues, and event details into intuitive layouts that visitors can scan.

Supporting Personalized Planning

Create schedule experiences that allow visitors to browse events and build their own festival itineraries.

Maintaining Visual Consistency

Apply the festival’s colorful identity across website elements, artist spotlights, and promotional graphics.

A major component involved developing responsive festival schedule experiences to make event discovery easier. The schedule organized performances and programming by date, time, venue, and event category.

From Browsing to Planning

  • Event-category filtering to explore programming by interest
  • Venue information alongside event details
  • Expandable daily schedules
  • Bookmarking functionality for personalized itineraries
  • Responsive layouts for desktop and mobile browsing

The layouts presented detailed information through a consistent hierarchy, giving visitors a structured way to navigate the lineup and plan their time.

Alternate Squarespace Layouts

Additional desktop and mobile layouts show another presentation of the festival schedule within Squarespace. Displaying these separately makes the layout exploration clear alongside the other schedule views.

To complement the schedule, I developed an interactive venue map highlighting festival locations throughout Midtown Detroit.

Color-coded location markers, venue names, addresses, and navigation elements helped visitors understand where events were taking place. Connecting venue discovery with programming offered another way to explore the festival beyond a traditional event listing.

This component brought visual design and practical functionality together for a festival spread across cultural institutions and performance spaces.

Alongside the website experience, I created artist spotlight graphics promoting the festival’s diverse lineup. The selection shown here features Sheila E., Dengue Fever, Don Was’ Detroit All Star Revue, NEA Jazz Masters Carmen Lundy and Gary Bartz, Las Cafeteras, and Problematic Black Hottie.

Each graphic combined artist photography, festival branding, performance details, and descriptive copy to introduce the musicians and encourage event discovery.

A consistent visual system connected the series, with variations in color, typography, and imagery reflecting the festival’s energy and diversity.

Schedule & Event Updates

Additional promotional materials supported festival scheduling and event updates, communicating practical information through clear, branded digital graphics.

Responsive Design

Adapt information-heavy layouts for desktop and mobile screens while keeping the most useful details prominent.

Information Hierarchy

Make event times, artist names, locations, and categories easy to scan.

Interactive Functionality

Support filtering, schedule bookmarking, and venue exploration with clear controls.

Brand Consistency

Carry the festival’s established identity across promotional graphics and functional digital experiences.

Content Organization

Present extensive programming information in a structured format that supports discovery and planning.

A connected set of digital experiences helped audiences explore the festival’s artists, navigate its venues, and plan their visits.

The Concert of Colors 2026 project brought together digital strategy, graphic design, and interactive web experiences to support the festival’s 35th anniversary.

Responsive scheduling tools, venue navigation, and coordinated promotional graphics created multiple ways for audiences to engage with the programming.

The project demonstrates my ability to work across visual design and digital development, transforming complex event information into cohesive, audience-focused experiences. It reflects my approach to design: work that is visually compelling, strategically considered, and functional for the people using it.

Beyond the portfolio

A little strategy.
A little personality.

I’m Jordan, a Detroit-based designer, strategist, and proud employee of two very opinionated cats.

I care about thoughtful details, clear ideas, and making room for curiosity. Outside of work, that usually means a good playlist, movement, and time with the people and pets I love.
